Delicia Adams loves giving back to the community and has a special place in her heart for seniors.

“Especially elderly people who don’t have any family. And (I love) to see the smiles on their faces,” she said.

Delicia volunteers every other Tuesday at Lenox on the Lake care center in Lauderhill. She helps the activities director lead games or exercises with groups of seniors.

One lady in particular has connected with Delicia, despite a language difference; she doesn’t speak English and Delicia doesn’t speak Spanish.

“She gravitates to me. She follows me around from room to room,” Delicia said.

Delicia learned about Heart2Heart while she was already volunteering at a care center. A Heart2Heart volunteer was volunteering alongside her and gave her information about how to sign up.

Since that time, Delicia has regularly participated in Heart2Heart’s special events, doing things like passing out teddy bears to memory care residents at Lenox on the Lake, helping residents paint on canvases Sonata Coconut Creek and leading bingo at Pacifica Sunrise.

“I’m very grateful that I’m allowed to volunteer for Heart2Heart,” Delicia said. “I like all the activities and how they keep you busy.”

Recently, Volunteer Coordinator Raquel Zingale asked her to help lead church volunteers in the making of hot chocolate packets decorated like reindeers, little gifts that were passed out to care center residents for Christmas.

“Delicia is reliable and dependable,” Raquel said. “I knew I could count on her.”

Delicia said she would encourage others to become a Heart2Heart volunteer.

“It’s very rewarding,” she said. “It makes your heart smile to give back to the community.”

Congratulations Delicia on being named Volunteer of the Month!

Becoming a Heart2Heart volunteer means that you are dedicated to serving the aging community. It means you want to connect in a meaningful way to a specific individual or to several people. It means you are committed to a consistent amount of time per month – whether that’s several hours a week or just a few hours per month.

Heart2Heart volunteers must be background checked and trained. Our training can be completed from your home on your computer or device, through the online Volunteer Portal. We run fingerprints in our office in Fort Lauderdale, and you can schedule an appointment with us after you finish the training.

The first step is to create an account on our Volunteer Portal. To get started, click here!
