Hearts United: Spreading Joy & Love to Seniors

On Saturday, February 22nd, Heart2Heart had the privilege of partnering with Parkridge Church and Community Christian Church to bring warmth and companionship to seniors across eight care facilities in Broward County. It was a day filled with heartfelt moments, joyful interactions, and the simple yet profound power of presence.

From the moment volunteers stepped into each facility, the atmosphere transformed. Smiles replaced solitude, laughter filled quiet halls, and hearts opened to genuine connection. Some volunteers sat beside residents, listening intently to stories of their youth, dreams, and cherished memories. Others played games, engaged in creative activities, or simply held a hand, reminding seniors that they are seen, heard, and loved.

For many seniors, isolation is a daily reality. But on this special day, that loneliness was replaced by belonging. The presence of compassionate volunteers rekindled hope and brought a renewed sense of community. One resident, Mary, wiped away happy tears as she shared, “I haven’t had this much fun in a long time. It feels good to know someone cares.”

The power of collaboration was on full display—church members, volunteers, and Heart2Heart supporters came together, united by a common mission: to spread joy and love. Each moment, each conversation, and each shared laugh reinforced the truth that no one should feel forgotten.

As the day came to a close, volunteers left with full hearts, knowing they had made a difference. And for the seniors? They were left with a beautiful reminder that they are never alone.

This event was more than just a day of service; it was a testament to what happens when compassion, community, and faith unite. The impact will last far beyond February 22nd, inspiring more people to step forward, reach out, and make a difference—one heart at a time.

The joy and connection shared on this day were made possible by caring volunteers like you. But there are still many seniors waiting for a visit, a conversation, or a simple reminder that they are not alone.

Becoming a Heart2Heart volunteer means that you are dedicated to serving the aging community. It means you want to connect in a meaningful way to a specific individual or to several people. It means you are committed to a consistent amount of time per month – whether that’s several hours a week or just a few hours per month.

Heart2Heart volunteers must be background checked and trained. Our training can be completed from your home on your computer or device, through the online Volunteer Portal. We run fingerprints in our office in Fort Lauderdale, and you can schedule an appointment with us after you finish the training.
