FORT LAUDERDALE – Bible Media Group is investing in the spiritual health of seniors by expanding its partnership with Heart2Heart Outreach of South Florida.
With a donation of $20,000, Bible Media Group is the Double Diamond sponsor for the Red Gala, Heart2Heart’s premier fundraising event.
“We are thrilled to support Heart2Heart’s efforts to give seniors access to the gospel,” said Bible Media Group President Tessie Devore. “This benefits both lifelong readers of Scripture and those who have yet to experience the life-changing power of God’s Word.”
The partnership between the two local faith-based organizations began in October 2022 after the launch of C.A.R.E. Tech. The program places 250 Heart2Heart-managed iPads in care centers to help seniors video chat with loved ones and volunteers and stay connected.
One preinstalled resource on the iPads is access to Bible Media Group’s Lumo Project Films, which turn Scripture into feature films using the verbatim words of scripture, translated into 1,315 languages.
“We were impressed to see how many seniors used the iPads to read and engage with Scripture over the past year,” said Bible Media Group director Erika Andujar. “Our mission is global, but we view the local elderly population — especially those who can’t make it to church anymore — as a largely unreached group who would be blessed to hear the Word of God.”
As part of the extended partnership, Heart2Heart will begin hosting monthly showings of Lumo films in care centers across South Florida.
“We don’t want to preach at seniors, but we know they have questions as they reflect on the end of life,” said Heart2Heart Community Relations Director Riana Samaroo. “This gives them an opportunity to talk with peers and with our volunteers, who have the freedom to pray with seniors and share their faith if they wish.”
The Red Gala will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at The Venue Fort Lauderdale, 2345 Wilton Drive. For tickets and sponsorships, visit www.heart2heartoutreach.org/redgala.
About Heart2Heart Outreach of South Florida
Since 2010, Heart2Heart has raised the quality of life for thousands of isolated seniors in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. Trained and compassionate volunteers provide hope, share love, and restore purpose to a growing population of aging adults.
Heart2Heart’s mission began with engaging lonely seniors in care centers, where 60% of residents never receive a visit from family and friends.
Today, its vision is to create the benchmark for meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of seniors as a community — within South Florida and beyond. Volunteers engage seniors through video calls, visits to their homes, transportation help with errands and doctor appointments, care package deliveries, and weekly Bible studies. The organization also provides respite care for loved ones who serve as primary caregivers and patient advocacy for seniors within Broward County’s meal delivery program.
About Bible Media Group
One billion people around the world don’t have any access to the Bible, despite the tireless work of existing Bible societies and organizations. Bible Media Group’s mission is to eradicate Bible poverty, bringing at least a portion of Scripture to the whole world by 2033.
The nonprofit uses the latest technology and traditional resources to give its partners more access to quality translations and innovative ways for people to engage with the transforming message of the Bible.
One way is by distributing Lumo Project Films, which pair the words of the Bible with realistic, high-quality visuals to help modern audiences experience Scripture with fresh eyes. So far, Lumo has released “The Gospel Films” — using scripture from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John — and “The Covenant,” which depicts the first five books of the Bible. Filming has already begun on its latest project, “The Acts of the Apostles,” due to release in 2024.
